MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2007
Members of the Board Human Resources Committee met on Monday, September 10, 2007, in the Dining Room, at the Education Center. Present were the following school board members: Michele Cann, Dr. Craig Haytmanek, William Heske, Charlene Koch, Loretta Leeson, and Diane Rowe. Also in attendance were Director of Information Technologies Robin Lutcher; Director of Student Services Thomas K. Washington; Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph A. Lewis; and Associate Superintendent Robert R. Gross III.
The meeting of the Board Human Resources Committee was called to order by Dr. Craig Haytmanek at 9:34 p.m. He asked Mrs. Koch to chair the meeting.
SECRETARIAL TRAINING ACADEMY Ð Mrs. Koch introduced Robin Lutcher to speak about the Secretarial Training Academy. Mrs. Lutcher referred to the Office Personnel Academy brochure and stated it was a project that started with Mr. Gross and the Human Resources Department to expand training, provide professional development, increase skills, and enhance efficiency and accuracy for secretaries. An important goal is for everyone to complete the same tasks in a consistent manner across the district. She indicated they will begin with on-line surveys that office personnel and administrators will fill out in order to assess needs. A schedule will be put together with those results. On October 8, 2007, there will be training on mail merge Ð creating labels and generating letters from databases. Office personnel will be asked to bring real work that they can do at the training session. Mrs. Lutcher pointed out that as the academy expands, various levels of advancements in training topics would be offered. After each training, there will be an on-line survey for participants to fill out.
Dr. Lewis stated that the administration wanted to do this and give the board an update that there will be developmental training for support staff.
Mrs. Rowe asked if this training would be available to outside groups. Mrs. Lutcher stated there have been discussions about doing this and offering these sessions to our community groups in the evenings. Mrs. Lutcher and Mr. Frank Arbushites will be putting together a list so community groups can come in and learn. Mrs. Koch stated it would help to offer the same opportunities to board members, so they can learn and familiarize themselves with the programs being offered in the district.
Mrs. Koch inquired about winter-shut-down hours. Dr. Lewis explained the make-up hours and closing of the Education Center during the winter holiday break. He indicated secretaries could use the hours of training towards the make-up time.
