MEETING MINUTES

MONDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2005

 

 

Members of the Board Human Resources Committee met on Monday, October 10, 2005, in the Superintendent's Conference Room A, at the Education Center. Present were the following school board members: Rosario Amato, Joseph Craig, Dr. Craig Haytmanek, William Heske, Charlene Koch, Loretta Leeson, Diane Rowe, Julie Venanzi, and Margaret Williams. Also in attendance were Assistant to the Superintendent for Finance and Administration Stanley Majewski, Superintendent Joseph Lewis, Student Representative Laura Collins, Liberty High School Principal Dean Donaher, Freedom High School Principal Roger Washburn, Freedom High School Assistant Principal Michael LaPorta, and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Robert R. Gross III.

 

The meeting of the Board Human Resources Committee was called to order by Dr. Haytmanek at 9:50 p.m.

2005-2006 CLASS SIZE REPORT - Mr. Gross distributed the class size report to the Board of Directors. Mr. Gross reviewed the report and explained the charts to the Board. He explained the core average and adjusted average numbers and how the average class size was determined. A general discussion was held regarding the average class sizes in elementary schools, which is 21.

 

Also discussed was the idea of consolidating classes between the high schools for those classes experiencing an under enrolled number of students. Discussions took place regarding the use of technology and video casting real time broadcasts of courses between the schools. Transporting students between the two high schools for courses when appropriate will promote the efficient and creative use of resources.

 

Class averages at the middle school and high schools fall in the mid-twenties for core courses such as English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
