MEETING MINUTES

MONDAY, JUNE 13, 2005

 

 

Members of the Board Human Resources Committee met on Monday, June 13, 2005, in the SuperintendentÕs Conference Room A, at the Education Center. Present were the following school board members: Joseph Craig, Dr. Craig Haytmanek, Charlene Koch, Loretta Leeson, Diane Rowe, Julie Venanzi, and Margaret Williams. Also in attendance were Director of Information Technologies Robin Lutcher, Director of Student Services Dr. William Nelson, Director of Business Affairs Stanley Majewski, Superintendent Joseph Lewis, and Associate Superintendent Michele Kostem.

 

The meeting of the Board Human Resources Committee was called to order by Dr. Haytmanek at 9:00 p.m.

OPEN FORUM Ð Charlene Koch reported that on June 21, 2005, she would be going to Harrisburg to lobby on the aftermath of Act 72. In addition, PSBA has completed its new building and they are asking people to come in and tour the facility. Mrs. Koch invited other Board members to attend. Diane Rowe agreed to go with Mrs. Koch to Harrisburg.

 

Loretta Lesson spoke about Vo-tech and its new evaluation process for their employees. She agreed to share the information with the Board.

 

Joseph Craig stated that he is planning to move ahead with the superintendentÕs evaluation and complete it earlier this year. The Board can expect information on this in their packet.

 

POLICY MANUAL UPDATES Ð Michele Kostem introduced Robin Lutcher and Dr. William Nelson who spoke about revisions to the policies in technology and controlled substances respectively.

 

Robin Lutcher distributed copies of the technology policies and spoke about modifications to them. A discussion was held regarding the stolen laptops at East Hills Middle School and what is being done to find out who took them. Joseph Craig wanted to know what could be done to prevent this in the future. A general discussion was also held regarding the security and use of tracking devices on school district equipment. Ms. Lutcher stated that she is working with administrators to do things differently next year in order to avoid equipment being stolen. Ms. Lutcher stated that policy 815.3 was removed from the policy manual.

 

Dr. Nelson introduced the controlled substance policy for pupils. He distributed copies of the policy and reviewed the revisions. He stated that the policy now is clearer and matches the Code of Conduct. A discussion was held regarding the use of products from a health store, medications, and controlled substances.
