MEETING MINUTES
MONDAY, APRIL 4, 2005
Members of the Board Human Resources Committee met on Monday, April 4, 2005, in the SuperintendentÕs Conference Room A, at the Education Center. Present were the following school board members: Rosario Amato, Joseph Craig, Dr. Craig Haytmanek, William Heske, Charlene Koch, Diane Rowe, Julie Venanzi, and Margaret Williams. Also in attendance were Assistant Superintendent Anthony Villani, Director of Information Technologies Robin Lutcher, Lehigh University Professor of Education Dr. Cates, Superintendent Joseph Lewis, and Associate Superintendent Michele Kostem.
The meeting of the Board Human Resources Committee was called to order by Dr. Haytmanek at 7:44 p.m.

OPEN FORUM Ð Mr. Amato expressed a concern about the orderliness of the weight room at Freedom High School. Weights are not being put back on the racks and someone can get hurt. Mr. Amato wanted to know if someone is in charge of keeping the weight room in order. Mr. Villani will review the situation with Freedom High School staff members.
PROJECT SKILL 21 QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION Ð Dr. Lewis introduced Dr. Cates, who was invited back to talk about SKILL 21. Dr. Cates answered various questions the Board had. A general discussion was held regarding the implementation of technology in the classroom and the use of the laptops. A discussion was also held concerning the performance indicators and measuring student academic achievement using laptops in a three-year period. Mrs. Lutcher spoke about the mission statement of technology and the goals for the district. Dr. Cates stated that the district is moving slowly with this project, but in the right direction.
HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC COACHING Ð Mr. Villani told the Board that the district has been invited to fill out an application to be part of a $31 million dollar grant that will be distributed to several districts over a three year period for math and literacy coaches. The district is entitled to 14 coaches to be shared between Liberty High School and Freedom High School. A general discussion was held regarding the use of the 14 coaches and the hiring of additional teachers. The Board agreed that the district can file an intent to participate form for the project, with formal action by the Board at a later date.
