The meeting of the Board Human Resources Committee was called to order by Dr. Haytmanek at 9:00 p.m.

Courtesy of the Floor to Visitors - Debbie Tremple, 1058 Woodmere Drive, Bethlehem, PA 18017, wanted to know how the interviews and selection of candidates will be handled and who will be involved in the hiring committee for the retiring administrators. She stated that this was a good time to have parents involved in a committee. A general discussion was held by Dr. Lewis regarding the selection plans for the high school principal positions. He also commented that a committee of parents, teachers, and administrators from the buildings would be assembled to participate in the process.  Mrs. Kostem explained the two levels of interviews.

Open Forum - None

CAPERS - CAPERS (Community Advocates Promoting Education Recreation Support) is an organization founded for the purpose of advancing opportunities for high school students without means from the minority population who have aspirations of entering the educational field. Dr. Lewis introduced the CAPERS Committee and their objective and announced that Mr. Young would address the Board. Mr. Young spoke about the teachers initiative and explained the steps to help our own minority students become teachers and bring them back to teach in our district. The students would be provided with a conditional scholarship of $2,500 per year for four years towards tuition. After college graduation, these students would return to our district and if they met the criteria for employment, the district would hire them. Upon employment with the district, they would contribute $25 per pay to CAPERS for the first four years of employment. A general discussion was held regarding CAPERS and questions the Board had were answered.

Proposed School Calendar for 2005-2006 - Michele Kostem distributed the 2005-2006 proposed school calendar. She spoke about the flex day and inservice days at the end of the year. The calendar will be in the February agenda for approval.

Other - Joseph Craig wanted to know if there was a plan to have the newly hired principals on board to work with the retiring principals. Dr. Lewis responded that they would like to bring them in as part of a transition plan. Mr. Craig stated that the retiring principals could always be brought back as consultants in order to avoid changing the principals' retirement dates. Mr. Amato wanted to know if the District was going outside for applicants. Dr. Lewis responded that it is an open search.

Dr. Haytmanek adjourned the meeting at 9:35 p.m.
