Monday, July 19, 2004
Members of the Board Human Resources Committee met on Monday, July 19, 2004, in the SuperintendentÕs Conference Room A, at the Education Center. Present were the following school board members: Joseph Craig, Dr. Craig Haytmanek, Charlene Koch, Diane Rowe, Julie Venanzi, and Margaret Williams. Also present were Superintendent Joseph Lewis and Associate Superintendent Michele Kostem.
The meeting of the Board Human Resources Committee was called to order by Dr. Craig Haytmanek at 7:55 p.m.
Open Forum Ð No items.
Reorganization of Technology Services Ð Dr. Lewis discussed the technology reorganization chart, which was handed out. With the assistance of Deborah Campanella, Scott Garrigan and Michele Kostem a realignment of the technology responsibilities, which were under Scott Garrigan, was accomplished. The chart shows what the various divisions do. A general discussion was held regarding integration of technology in the classrooms and technology services.
Proposed Title Changes for Middle School Supervisors of Curriculum and Instruction Ð Mrs. Kostem stated that for many years the middle schools had three different administrator positions: principals, assistant principals, and supervisors of curriculum and instruction. In order to provide greater flexibility and be consistent with certification titles, Dr. Lewis has recommended that the position of supervisor of curriculum and instruction be renamed as assistant principal. A discussion was held regarding the change in title and the roles of the assistant principals. The committee agreed with Mrs. KostemÕs request to change the titles officially during the July Regular Board Meeting.
Other Ð Mrs. Kostem asked the Board for authorization to add a teacher assistant for DoneganÕs off-site kindergarten center for next year. There will be two full-day-kindergarten sessions and four one-half day kindergarten sessions for four teachers. The teacher assistant would help to monitor the children especially during lunch. The position would require the person to be Spanish speaking and have first aid skills to serve as a health assistant when needed. Dr. Lewis stated there will be four teachers, the teacher assistant, and approximately 60 students in the AM and 60 students in the PM.
Dr. Haytmanek adjourned the meeting at 9:12 p.m.
