BOARD HUMAN RESOURCES

COMMITTEE MEETING

Monday, May 10, 2004

 

 

Members of the Board Human Resources Committee met on Monday, May 10, 2004, in the SuperintendentÕs Conference Room A, at the Education Center. Present were the following school board members: Rosario Amato, Dr. Craig Haytmanek, William Heske, Charlene Koch, Diane Rowe, Julie Venanzi, and Margaret Williams. Also present were Superintendent Joseph Lewis, Associate Superintendent Michele Kostem, and BEA President Barbara Fowler.

 

The meeting of the Board Human Resources Committee was called to order by Dr. Craig Haytmanek at 7:16 p.m.

Proposed Induction Plan Ð Mrs. Kostem presented the Proposed Induction Plan, which was sent to the Board on Friday. We are required to include this in the Strategic Plan. The Induction Plan has been updated but not fundamentally changed. An in-depth discussion was held on the operating procedures of the Induction Program.

 

Proposed Act 48 Plan Ð Mrs. Kostem began her discussion on the Act 48 Plan by stating that it is required to be a part of the Strategic Plan. She stated that Act 48 is a law in Pennsylvania that came into effect in the Summer of 2000. She spoke about Act 48 and what is expected from the teachers in order for them to maintain active certificates. She reviewed the plan with the Board and spoke about changes that have been made to it. A discussion was held regarding CPETracker and how the District manages it.

 

Review of Policy Manual Ð 500Õs and 600Õs Ð Mrs. Kostem asked the Board to return the policies that were sent to them. They are incomplete and will be distributed and discussed during the June Human Resources Committee Meeting.

 

Boundary Change: Asa Packer and Governor Wolf Ð Dr. Lewis spoke about the meeting that will be held on Wednesday, May 12th and the thoughts parents are now having on the move to Governor Wolf from Asa Packer. Dr. Lewis told the Board that a survey would be distributed to parents at WednesdayÕs meeting to get an indication from the parents regarding where they want their children to attend if given a choice. A discussion was held with the Board regarding enrollment numbers and the impact on both schools over the next five years.
