COMMITTEE MEETING

Tuesday, January 20, 2004

 

 

Members of the Board Human Resources Committee met on Tuesday, January 20, 2004, in the Superintendent’s Conference Room A, at the Education Center. Present were the following school board members: Rosario Amato, Joseph Craig, Dr. Craig Haytmanek, William Heske, Charlene Koch, Loretta Leeson, Diane Rowe, Julie Venanzi, and Margaret Williams. Also present were Superintendent Joseph Lewis and Associate Superintendent Michele Kostem.

 

The meeting of the Board Human Resources Committee was called to order by Dr. Craig Haytmanek at 7:45 p.m.

 

Open Forum – Joseph Craig asked about this year’s graduation ceremonies. He wanted to know if firm dates had been agreed to between the District and Stabler Arena. Dr. Lewis stated he would check with the high school principals and let the Board know.

 

2004-2005 School Calendar – Michele Kostem distributed the 2004-2005 Proposed School Calendar. She stated that the calendar has been reviewed by Saucon Valley School District, Northampton School District, administrators, and the Bethlehem Education Association. The feedback has been positive. Margaret Williams stated that it was important for parents to get information early about the calendar and that it is a great idea to finish the school year earlier than in the past. Dr. Lewis has received favorable comments from staff and parents about this year’s calendar. Michele Kostem spoke about the relationship among inservice days, snow days and the Act 80 process. Loretta Leeson commented that placing the elementary conferences during Thanksgiving week was an advantage over this year’s placement in the week prior to Thanksgiving.

 

 

Dr. Craig Haytmanek adjourned the meeting at 7:51 p.m.
