OF THE

BOARD HUMAN RESOURCES

COMMITTEE MEETING

Monday, February 10, 2003

Members of the Board Human Resources Committee met on Monday, February 10, 2003, in the SuperintendentÕs Conference Room A, at the Education Center. Present were the following school board members: Rosario Amato, Joseph Craig, Charlene Koch, Loretta Leeson, Dr. Craig Haytmanek, Julie Venanzi, and Margaret Williams. Also present were Superintendent Joseph Lewis and Assistant Superintendent Michele Kostem.

The meeting of the Board Human Resources Committee was called to order by Mr. Joseph Craig at 7:10 p.m.

Open Forum Ð Mr. Amato inquired about a follow-up regarding students attending an Easton wrestling match and having to pay admission. Dr. Lewis responded that the procedure was consistent with EastonÕs policy but that Mr. Senneca, Athletic Director of Liberty High School, would bring this matter up at a future league meeting.

Proposed Boundary Realignment: Broughal and East Hills Ð Michele Kostem and June Richardson presented the Proposed Boundary Realignment between Broughal and East Hills Middle Schools. It was proposed that the boundary change that was made in 2001 between the two schools be reversed due to the present student population of East Hills Middle School and Broughal Middle School. It was explained that without the boundary change, East Hills Middle School was estimated to need six additional sections to cover its student projection for the 2003-04 school year. By changing the boundary, it is anticipated that it would reduce the increase at East Hills from six new sections to three sections. It is further proposed that the 7th grade Monagacci Program at East Hills be located in the space now used by the Data and Materials Resource Center at Freedom High School. In addition, one special education class will be relocated to another middle school. This would keep East Hills at the same number of sections for next year as it presently has. It was explained that students from the proposed realignment area who have started classes at East Hills would be permitted to remain there. However, parents may request to have siblings move from East Hills to Broughal.

High School Graduations Ð Dr. Lewis explained to the Board that Stabler Arena was not available on the tentative dates established for high school graduation. The Board was informed that the seniors at Liberty High School would be one day short of the required 180 days and that a small financial deduction might be taken from a future subsidy. The Board requested the administration to contact Stabler to see if it was available on June 14th to avoid this deduction. Dr. Lewis agreed to investigate this possibility.

Joseph Craig adjourned the meeting at 8:10 p.m.
