The meeting of the Board Human Resources Committee was called to order by Mr. Gallagher at 7:11 p.m.

ACT 48 Update Mrs. Kostem opened the discussion by giving a definition of ACT 48; ACT 48 is a law in Pennsylvania which states that teachers and administrators need to complete 180 hours of professional development or receive six credits at a college/university every five years in order for professional certificates to remain active. Requirements in the law also indicate that a committee of administrators, teachers, community members and parents be set up. Mrs. Kostem asked the Board to provide her with any names of individuals who may be interested in working on the committee. The nominated committee members will then be approved by the Board. The committee will develop a plan, which will be recommended to the Board for approval, and once approved, will be submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education. A question/answer booklet on ACT 48 has been developed by PSBA. Copies will be sent to Board members. IU 20 has developed a computer program called CPE Tracker to track the courses and hours taken toward completion of the requirement. An agreement with the BEA has been reached to have teachers enter their own information in the CPE Tracker system. PDE is required by ACT 48 to maintain the records of teachers/administrators completion of their 180 hour requirement.
The meeting adjourned at 7:18 p.m.
