BOARD FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

JULY 21, 2003

Members of the Board Finance Committee, Chairman Rosie Amato and Charlene Koch together with board members William Heske, Loretta Leeson, Joseph Craig, and Julie Venanzi met with Superintendent Dr. Joseph Lewis, Director of Business Affairs Stanley J. Majewski, Jr., and Assistant Superintendent Michele Kostem in SuperintendentÕs Conference Room A. Also in attendance was student representative Caleb Schwartzbach, Nick Falsone from the Express Times and Genevieve Marshall from the Morning Call.

OPEN FORUM  - Mr. Heske and Mr. Craig stated that several taxpayers have indicated

that they are waiting to pay their tax bills until the State passes itsÕ budget in the hope that taxes will be lowered. Mr. Heske indicated he thought we should make a statement that the bills would not be changed.

Mr. Majewski agreed and stated that the speculated increase in subsidies would not affect the tax bills. If additional money is received it will be used to either pay off debt, help offset higher district contributions to the stateÕs retirement fund or restore the fund balance.

2003-2004 TAX BILLS Ð Mr. Majewski reported that the 2003-2004 tax bills included a reminder that a grace period was no longer allowed.  The statement was included on both the front and the back of the tax bill. In addition, a notice was placed in the local newspapers stating that the bills had been mailed and that there was no longer a grace period.

Mr. Majewski also reported that a computer programming glitch caused an error in the map, block and lot numbers on some tax bills. The district has alerted all mortgage companies and will be sending a correction letter to each taxpayer affected by this error. The error will not cause any delay in processing the payment of the tax bills as payments are identified by the bill number and not the map, block and lot numbers.

The meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
