BOARD FINANCE COMMITTEE MINUTES

NOVEMBER 11, 2002

 

 

Members of the Board Finance Committee, Charlene Koch and Rosario Amato, together with board members, Loretta Leeson, Julie Venanzi, William Heske, Margaret Williams and Joseph Craig met with Superintendent Dr. Joseph Lewis, Director of Business Affairs Stanley J. Majewski, Jr., and Assistant Superintendent Michele Kostem in Conference Room A at the Education Center. Also in attendance were Genevieve Marshall from the Morning Call and Michael Buffer from the Express Times.

 

OPEN FORUM Š Mr. Craig asked Mr. Majewski to explain the referendum that appeared on election ballots on Tuesday November 5. Mr. Majewski explained that two Northampton County school districts approved a referendum eliminating the Occupational Assessment Tax and replacing it with a higher Earned Income Tax. Bethlehem Area School District does not have an Occupational Assessment Tax.

 

BOARD POLICY MANUAL UPDATE Š Dr. Lewis advised the committee that the district is working with the Pennsylvania School Boards Association and is in the process of updating the Board Policy Manual. Copies of policy updates will be distributed throughout the year to the board for review. Some of the districtÕs policies have not been updated since 1983. The updated Policy will be put on the districtÕs web site and will be accessible to the public.

 

STATE AUDIT REPORT-YEARS ENDING 1999 & 2000 Š Mr. Majewski reported that during the summer state auditors conducted an audit of the districtÕs records for the years ending 1999 and 2000. There were no findings for the 1999 and 2000 years.
