BOARD FINANCE COMMITTEE MINUTES
Members of the Board Finance Committee Charlene Koch and Dr. Craig Haytmanek, together with board members William Heske, Edward Gallagher, Loretta Leeson, Joseph Craig, Margaret Williams, and Julie Venanzi met with Superintendent Thomas Doluisio, Director of Business Affairs Stanley J. Majewski, Jr., and Assistant Superintendent Michele Kostem, in the SuperintendentÕs Conference Room. Also in attendance was Daniel Walsh from the Express Times.
OPEN FORUM Ð Mr. Heske informed the committee that radio station KYW is giving away computers. He advised everyone to listen on Thursday mornings.
HEALTH INSURANCE Ð Mr. Majewski informed the committee that Blue Cross and Blue Shield have split. The district must pick a new health insurance administrator by September 1. It is hoped that competition among the health insurance companies will help lower costs. Mr. Majewski will be meeting with representatives of the two companies and will report back with recommendations to the committee. It is the districtÕs goal to offer identical coverage as is now afforded its employes.
PRINTING OF TAX BILLS Ð APRIL AGENDA ITEM Ð Mr. Majewski informed the committee that solicitations for the printing of tax bills came in over $10,000. Unfortunately this increase in printing fees was not anticipated and enough time does not exist to advertise for bids. The bills would not be ready for mailing July 1 if the school district bids them this year. Future tax bill printing purchases will be bid.
TECHNOLOGY PLAN Ð Dr. Scott Garrigan presented a state mandated three-year technology plan for the district. This plan calls for replacement and upgrades of computers and related technology in district schools. The cost would be approximately $3,000,000 over a three-year period. Dr. Garrigan expressed a desire to institute a five-year plan and to establish a standing Technology Steering Committee. The district cannot afford to replace equipment every three years and a five-year plan would be more feasible.
The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
