MEETING MINUTES
MONDAY MAY 3, 2004
Members of the Board Facilities Committee met on Monday, May 3, 2004, at 6:15 p.m. in the Auditorium at East Hills Middle School. Present were school board members William Heske, Joseph Craig, Loretta Leeson, Julie Venanzi, Charlene Koch, Dr. Craig Haytmanek, Rosario Amato, Diane Rowe and Margaret Williams. Also present were Dr. Joseph A. Lewis, superintendent of schools, Michele Kostem, associate superintendent, Stanley Majewski, director of business affairs, Monty Perfetti, director of operations, planning, and special programs, Lewis Lengyel, assistant supervisor of buildings and grounds, William Burkhardt, principal, Liberty High School, Arif Fazil, district engineer (D'Huy Engineering, Inc.), and representatives from the press.
The meeting of the Board Facilities Committee was called to order at 6:15 p.m. by Mr. Heske, Chairman.

A. After discussion by the administration, the board unanimously agreed to bring the following agenda items to the May 17, 2004, Regular Board Meeting for approval:
1. Pennsylvania Department of Education Self-Certification Approval - Transportation Facility Oil Tank Pad Area Subgrade Repair
2. Authorization to Expend 2001 Bond Funds - Roadway Improvements - Farmersville Elementary School - Change Order Deduct
3. Freedom High School Additions - PlanCon Part B Approval
4. Authorization to Expend 2001 Bond Funds - New Northeast Middle School - Miscellaneous Fit Out Modification - Change Order
5.
Authorization to Expend 2001 Bond Funds - New Northeast Middle School -
Sprinkler System Permit - Change Order
A.
Projects in Design Update
- Education Center Fire Alarm System and Card Access. Mr. Fazil reported that
this
project is in the design phase.
- Transportation Facility Oil Tank Pad Area Repair. Mr. Fazil reported that the
project
is out to bid and there is a concern that there is some sinkhole activity in
the area. This
will be evaluated as the investigative excavation is performed. Repairs and
associated
additional costs may be necessary depending on the findings. Bids for this
repair will be
presented at the June 7, 2004. Special Board Meeting for award.
- Asbestos abatement associated with Freedom High School window replacement
and
Nitschmann floor replacement is out for bid. Bids will be presented at the
June 7, 2004,
Special Board Meeting for award.
B.
New Northeast Middle School
Update. Project is on schedule. Dr. Lewis provides a monthly photo update at
the Board meeting.
C. Projects in Construction Update - No report.
Freedom
High School Construction Project Milestone Schedule:
* Mr. Fazil provided handout 1 and reviewed the planned list of meetings and dates for this project. A plan update including building elevations will be presented at the June 7, 2004, Special Board Meeting.

Geotechnical Proposal for Liberty High School and Freedom High School Construction Projects:
* Mr. Fazil reported that proposals for the geotechnical work for the Liberty High School and Freedom High School projects have been issued and they will be presented at the June 7, 2004, Special Board Meting for award.
Other
* Mr. Fazil reported that there was a pipe leak at Spring Garden that damaged a sink cabinet and drywall in one classroom. The damaged material has been removed, the room is vacated, and the room is being scheduled for testing.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:45 p.m.
