BOARD FACILITIES COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2001
Members of the Board Facilities Committee met on Monday, November 5, 2001, at 6:00 p.m., in the Superintendent’s Conference Room at the Education Center. Present were school board members Charlene Koch, Loretta Leeson, Julie Venanzi, Margaret Williams, Joseph Craig, and Rosie Amato. Also present were Thomas Doluisio, Superintendent of Schools, Michele Kostem, Assistant Superintendent, Jack Wittenberger, Acting Director of Maintenance/Security, Arif Fazil of D’Huy Engineering, Inc., and representatives from the press.
The meeting of the Board Facilities Committee was called to order at 6:00 p.m., by Mrs. Loretta Leeson (Mr. William Heske, Chairman was not present).
The following items were discussed:
1. Open Forum –
A. Mr. Craig requested a tour of the new Donegan Elementary School for board members. Mr. Doluisio informed Mr. Craig that an open house at Donegan Elementary School is scheduled for December 9, 2001(2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.), with a tour for board members one hour prior to the open house (1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.).
B. The board requested that the administration notify the Northeast Little League of the time period that the baseball fields at Northeast Middle School would not be available to them due to the construction project.
2. Construction Update –
Jack Wittenberger presented an update as to the progress of the new Donegan Elementary School. He stated that the project is on schedule, with cleaning of the new building to be complete by the end of this week, and the move into the new facility complete by November 26, 2001.
3. Agenda Items – November 19, 2001, Board Meeting
Mr. Wittenberger and Mr. Fazil reviewed the following agenda items and the board voted 6-0 to bring them to the November 19, 2001, Board Meeting:
A. Authorization to Expend 2001 Bond Funds – Northeast Middle School Construction Project – Site Plans
B. Authorization to Expend 2001 Bond Funds – Northeast Middle School Construction Project – Incidental Fees and Charges
C. Authorization to Expend 2001 Bond Funds – Engineering/Industrial Hygiene Services
D. Authorization to Expend 2001 Bond Funds – Northeast Middle School Construction Project – Architectural Services
3. Agenda Items – November 19, 2001, Board Meeting (Continued)
Note: the administration will have representatives from Spillman Farmer Architects present at the January Board Facilities Committee Meeting to discuss possible designs for the new Northeast Middle School. Mr. Doluisio also informed the board that Mr. Fazil checked the going rate for architectural fees and Spillman Farmer Architects are well within the average fees being charged.
E. Authorization to Expend 2001 Bond Funds – Engineering Services
F. Telephone/Written Quotations for the $4,000-$10,000 Cost Category
· Emergency Repairs to Stage Rigging – Broughal Middle School
G. Authorization to Expend 1998 Bond Funds - Donegan Elementary School – Change Order Deduct – Elimination of Anti-Graffiti Spray (change order is not attached but will be included in the November agenda) The board asked the administration to investigate alternate brands of graffiti sprays.
4. Discussion Items –
A. Mr. Fazil informed the board that he would be bringing various options for Broughal Middle School to the January Board Facilities Meeting for the board to review.
