BOARD FACILITIES COMMITTEE MEETING

MEETING MINUTES


MONDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2000


Members of the Board Facilities Committee met on Monday, November 6, 2000, at 6:00 p.m., in the

Superintendent's Conference Room at the Education Center. Present were school board members

William Heske, Charlene Koch, Margaret Williams, Loretta Leeson, Joseph Craig, Rosie Amato and Julie
Venanzi. Also present were Thomas Doluisio, Superintendent of Schools, Michele Kostem, Assistant

Superintendent, Dominic Villani, Director of Administrative Services, Arif Fazil of D'Huy Engineering,

Inc., Jack Wittenberger, Assistant Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, Bruce Johnson and Craig Miller
of Johnson Controls, and representatives from the press.


The meeting of the Board Facilities Committee was called to order at 6:00 p.m., by Mr. William Heske,
Chairman.


The following items were discussed:

Open Forum-


Mr. Craig requested that the administration look into putting fencing around the track and

practice football areas at Freedom High School so large equipment can be left outside during the
season. Mr. Villani will investigate costs associated with this request.


Construction Update-


Mr. Villani distributed and discussed a list of all current projects and their status.


Mr. Villani stated that the all-weather track at the Bethlehem Area School District Stadium will

be going out for bids soon, with work starting in the spring. It should be complete by September

of 2001. He has met with the parents group and they will begin their fund raising activities
shortly.


Regarding the Donegan Elementary School, he noted that the schedule for construction is very

tight and right now the estimated date for the availability of the new building will be mid to late

August if everything continues to run on schedule. He also noted that Rosemont will still be
available in the fall if needed.


Mr. Heske asked that the administration take a close look at the bid specifications for the William

nLiberty High School Cafeteria and Auditorium Air-Conditioning Project

nBethlehem Area School District Stadium All-Weather Track Project

Authorization to Expend 1998 Bond Funds - Marvine Elementary School's Construction
Project - Pennsylvania Power & Light Company Power Service Costs and Right-of-Way

Grant - Change Order - Board Ratification

Authorization to Expend 1998 Bond Funds - Freedom High School Water Line
Installation - Board Ratification

Authorization to Expend 1998 Bond Funds - Liberty High School Fire Alarm System
and Auditorium Improvement Project - Change Order Deduct

Authorization to Expend 1998 Bond Funds - Donegan Elementary School's Construction

Project - Change Order
Telephone/Written Quotations for the $4,000-$10,000 Cost Category

nFurnish & Install Chain Link Fence - Lincoln Elementary School

nBaseball Field Renovations - Freedom High School
(Freedom High School Booster Club will be donating $5,000 to this project)

nSoftball Field Dugouts - Liberty High School

(District will be purchasing supplies from the Concession Stand Account)

Discussion Items -

Freemansburg Bethlehem Township Little League Request -


Mr. Villani read a request from the Freemansburg Bethlehem Township Little League to
place a portable trailer for concession usage on the Miller Height Elementary School site

where they currently have athletic fields. The board unanimously approved this request.


Freemansburg Elementary School -


Mr. Villani reported that the remediation at Freemansburg Elementary School is

complete. As soon as all the tests come back stating that the rooms are safe, the

contractors will go back into the building to finish the remediation, cleaning, and repairs
to the rooms.


Johnson Controls - Performance Contract -


Bruce Johnson and Craig Miller from Johnson Controls reviewed a "Year 2 Report" of

their contract.


Mr. Villani announced that Freedom High School will also be getting softball dugouts

and that parents will be doing the actual construction.
