BOARD FACILITIES COMMITTEE MEETING
MEETING MINUTES
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2000
Members of the Board Facilities Committee met on Monday, September 11, 2000, at 6:15 p.m., in the Superintendents Conference Room at the Education Center. Present were school board members Charlene Koch, Julie Venanzi, Margaret Williams, Joseph Craig, Lynn Glancy, Rosie Amato, and William Heske. Also present were Thomas Doluisio, Superintendent of Schools, Michele Kostem, Assistant Superintendent, Dominic Villani, Director of Administrative Services, William Burkhardt, Principal of Liberty High School, William Nelson, Director of Elementary Education, Stan Majewski, Director of Business Affairs, Arif Fazil of DHuy Engineering, Inc., and a representative from the press.
The meeting of the Board Facilities Committee was called to order at 6:15 p.m., by Mr. William Heske, Chairman
The following items were discussed:
The board inquired as to the status of the new school sign planned for Liberty High School. Mr. Burkhardt explained that a model has been designed and they will soon be soliciting quotes. He stated that the sign would be in the shape of an "L" and would be placed on the corner by Elizabeth Avenue.
Mr. Villani distributed and discussed a list of all current projects and their status.
Nothing to report at this time.
Mr. Villani, Mr. Doluisio, and Dr. Nelson presented an update of the situation at Freemansburg Elementary School. Mr. Villani noted that the administration, maintenance staff, principals, and teachers are working frantically to move the students into the Bethlehem Steels building on Third Street. If all goes as planned, teachers will be allowed into the new facility on Thursday to set up their classrooms and students will begin classes on Monday, September 18, 2000. A special meeting for parents is scheduled on Tuesday, September 12, 2000, at the Liberty High School auditorium and an open house is scheduled at the new facility on Sunday, September 17, 2000, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. for parents and students. Mr. Doluisio noted that a more formal thank- you would come later to the Bethlehem Steel for the use of their building and especially to Mr. Chuck Walker from EDS who has provided many volunteers to assist with the clean up of the new facility and the setting up of classrooms.
