BOARD FACILITIES COMMITTEE MEETING

MEETING MINUTES

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2000

 

Members of the Board Facilities Committee met on Monday, February 7, 2000, at 6:00 p.m., in the Superintendent’s Conference Room at the Education Center. Present were school board members Lynn Glancy, Joseph Craig, Margaret Williams, Charlene Koch, and Loretta Leeson. Also present were Thomas Doluisio, Superintendent of Schools, Michele Kostem, Assistant Superintendent, Dominic Villani, Director of Athletics/Plant Management, Arif Fazil of D’Huy Engineering, Inc., Bill Ruth, head track coach from Liberty High School, members of the Liberty High School track parents group, and representatives from the press.

The meeting of the Board Facilities Committee was called to order at 6:00 p.m., by Dominic Villani (Mr. Heske, Committee Chairperson, was absent).

The following items were discussed:

  2. Nothing to report.

  3. Construction Update
  4. Mr. Villani reported that all projects are on schedule.

  5. Agenda Items

The following items were reviewed and the board unanimously voted to bring these items to the February Board Meetings:

Special Board Meeting — February 14, 2000 -

    1. Donegan and Marvine Elementary Schools’ Construction Projects — PlanCons D & E Approvals

February 28, 2000, Board Meeting

    1. Self Certification Applications — Liberty High School — Auditorium Lighting & Sound System Project and Classroom Center Cooling Tower Replacement Project (which includes fire alarm system upgrades)
    2. Authorization to Expend 1996 Bond Funds — Buchanan Elementary School Renovation/Construction Project — Change Order Deduct
    3. Authorization to Expend 1998 Bond Funds — Marvine Elementary School Construction Project — Incidental Fees and Charges

 

 

  1. Discussion Items

    1. Capital Improvement Plan Update —
    2. Mr. Villani informed the board that an updated Capital Improvement Plan will be available at the March Board Facilities Committee Meeting.

    3. Additional BASD Capital Improvements —

Mr. Villani reviewed six capital improvement projects the administration is recommending from 1998 bond funds. Mr. Bill Ruth, head track coach at Liberty High School and members of the track parents group discussed the new track at the BASD stadium and volunteered to raise approximately $250,000 toward the new track project. The board voted unanimously to proceed with all six projects:

    1. Education Center Print Room Addition with Elevator
    2. Freedom High School Network Center Renovation
    3. BASD Stadium Modified ADA Accessibility
    4. BASD Six-Lane Track with Minimal Site Improvements
    5. Liberty High School Cafeteria Air-Conditioning
    6. Liberty High School Auditorium Air-Conditioning

The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
