BOARD CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2004
Members of the Board Curriculum Committee met on Monday, November 8, 2004, at 6:00 p.m., in SuperintendentÕs Conference Room A of the Education Center. Present were Curriculum Committee Members Anthony Villani and Richard Agretto; Board Members Rosario Amato, Joseph Craig, Dr. Craig Haytmanek, Charlene Koch, Loretta Leeson, Diane Rowe, Julie Venanzi, and Margaret Williams. Also in attendance were Dr. Joseph Lewis, superintendent of schools, Michele Kostem, associate superintendent, staff members Dr. William Nelson, Robin Lutcher, Julie Victory, and representatives of the press.
OPEN FORUM
Mrs. Koch informed the board that she will be attending the National Schools Boards Association (NSBA) Federal Relations Network Conference in Washington, D.C. being held January 30, 2005 through February 1, 2005.
FIRST-IN-MATH PRESENTATION
Mrs. Julie Victory, supervisor of mathematics, introduced Mr. Robert Sun of Suntex who presented an overview of the First-In-Math program which is an enrichment and intervention math program the district has purchased for all students in grades three through eight. He noted that it is an internet-based program which class teams play against each other and are ranked within the district, state, and nationally. Teachers and select administrators can Òdrill downÓ to check the progress of all students participating in the program. Mr. Sun recommended that the board send letters of recognition to any class team who achieves outstanding sticker points (sticker points are accumulated by students as they complete sections of math problems within the program). The board requested that they receive updates on the studentsÕ progress.
MATH CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Mrs. Julie Victory discussed the recently revised math curriculum and explained how it is aligned with the Pennsylvania Standards and Anchors. She distributed and discussed the Scope and Sequence and an example of the Performance Assessments.

Mr. Villani noted that this report is not complete yet, and he will send it out to the board as soon as it is completed. Time will be allotted on the next curriculum agenda to discuss the data study.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
