MEETING MINUTES
Monday, January 20, 2004
Members of the Board Curriculum Committee met on Monday, January 20, 2004, at 6:00 p.m., in SuperintendentÕs Conference Room A of the Education Center. Present were Curriculum Committee Member Anthony R. Villani, Board Members Rosario Amato, Joseph Craig, Dr. Craig Haytmanek, William Heske, Charlene Koch, Loretta Leeson, Diane Rowe, Julie Venanzi, and Margaret Williams. Also in attendance were Superintendent Joseph A. Lewis, Michele Kostem, Dr. William Nelson, Monty Perfetti, Jill Moran, Elizabeth Burak, Joseph Rahs, and representatives of the press.
OPEN FORUM
1. Mr. Craig noted that an executive session would be needed in February to discuss evaluation procedures. He suggested February 9, 2004, at the end of the regular meeting.
2. Mrs. Koch gave a PSBA update and reminded board members of the next meeting on February 8 & 9, 2004, in Hershey.
3. Mrs. Koch reminded the administration that she would like to discuss the boardÕs findings from their visits to the charter schools. The superintendent noted that the administration will be revisiting the charter schools shortly and will also be preparing an analysis on associated costs.
4. Mr. Heske acknowledged Dr. LewisÕ well written article in the BASD Newsletter on No Child Left Behind.
REGIONAL ACADEMIC STANDARDS ACADEMY UPDATE
Mr. Villani introduced Ms. Jill Moran and members of her staff who presented an update and Power Point presentation on the second year of the Regional Academic Standards Academy.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMMING/ATHLETIC WAIVER DISCUSSION
Mr. Villani distributed copies of a survey on Physical Education Programming/Athletic Waivers. He noted that 45 schools responded to his survey. Due to lack of time, Mr. Villani requested that the board bring the survey back to the next meeting for review.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
