She also included a summary of the Bethlehem Area School DistrictÕs results on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) for the 2002-2003 school year in comparison with the results from the past six years of assessment.
ATHLETICS/EXTRACURRICULAR REORGANIZATION UPDATE
Mr. Villani presented an update on the athletic reorganization proposal presented to the school board three years ago. He then introduced Fred Harris, athletic director at Freedom High School and Sam Senneca, athletic director at Liberty High School who presented a three-year survey of all athletic programs which included sports statistics and student participation. The board noted that this survey was very informative and requested that it be updated yearly.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION OPTION, SECONDARY
Dr. Lewis presented recommendations to the board for solutions to the physical education facility issues at Liberty High School. He noted that the administration and the district engineer have reviewed all the recommendations and are recommending that the current rifle range be converted to a daytime fitness area with a lateral climbing wall station. The board stated that they could only support this recommendation if the administration finds a new location for the athletic batting cages. Dr. Lewis said he would have a revised recommendation before the November 17, 2003, school board meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m., at which time board members were given a tour of the Liberty High School Commons Building and the physical education facilities.
