Special Education Audit
This item will be addressed at a later meeting.
Dress Code Regulations
Mr. Burkhardt reviewed the proposed changes to the student dress regulations. He noted that the dress code regulations are reviewed with the students every fall and are posted around the entire school. Habitual offenders are usually sent home and the parents are called.
Margaret Williams commented that it is better to be less specific when noting examples of inappropriate dress, since it allows for more flexibility. Dr. Lewis clarified that these specific regulations apply to the school/educational setting only. Appropriate levels of dress should be emphasized for each occasion outside of the school setting.
Open Enrollment Policy
Dr. Nelson told those present that the open enrollment policy has been very popular for the past several years. He said that while the basic tenets of the program will not change, it is necessary to emphasize the parental responsibilities of the policy. He reviewed the revisions to the proposed open enrollment policy which included the criteria for placement in a selected school, and the areas of compliance which must be met in order for a student to remain in a selected school.
Line 39 of the policy will be moved to coincide with Line 18, in response to a suggestion from Joe Craig.
Craig Haytmanek asked what was found to be the primary reason for open enrollment. It was noted that the primary reason for open enrollment requests is to accommodate child care. Only a small percentage of open enrollment requests are related to academic concerns.
The proposed policy was approved as a first reading.
The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
