Monday, July 10, 2000

Members of the Board Curriculum Committee met on Monday, July 10, 2000, at 7:15 p.m. in the Superintendent’s Conference Room at the Education Center. Present were school board members Rosario Amato, Lynn Glancy, Charlene Koch, Loretta Leeson, and Julie Venanzi. Also present were Thomas Doluisio, Superintendent of Schools, Michele Kostem, Assistant Superintendent, and Monty Perfetti, Director of Secondary Education.

Open Forum

Mr. Heske asked the administration if additional data regarding turnover in elementary schools would be presented for review. Mr. Doluisio responded that he would investigate.

Mrs. Koch was interested in receiving information on the success of block scheduling. Data from the five-year Davison Report will be provided to demonstrate trends in student performance related to attendance, academic achievement, and behavior.

Student Code of Conduct Modifications

Monty Perfetti reported that last month the administration presented modifications to the Student Code of Conduct that would clarify procedures already in practice. After discussion with field administrators, there are no additional major changes than those presented in June.

Further modifications now include the elimination of certain sections of the Appendix by incorporating this language in the actual body of the Student Code of Conduct, or by eliminating repetitive language due to its current inclusion. No substantive changes in the Code of Conduct will occur as a result of this process.

Complete modifications to Student Code of Conduct will be presented as a second reading at the July 24th Regular Board Meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
