16. Halloween Parade
INFORMATION:
The annual Halloween Parade is being held on Sunday, October 26, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. Again, many of the district's elementary students, in addition to middle and high school band members, will participate in the parade. The administration is arranging transportation for the district's students to specified parade locations. Also, the parade judges and marshals will be transported to their respective sites on the same buses that are used to transport the elementary students. The success of this event directly relates to the cooperative efforts and financial support of the City of Bethlehem and the Bethlehem Area School District. The cost to the district will not exceed $1,000.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the administration be authorized to transport participating students, parade judges, and marshals to and from the specified parade locations on Sunday, October 26, 2003, at 2:00 p.m., or on the rain date of Monday, October 27, 2003, at 7:00 p.m., at a cost not to exceed $1,000.
The administration's recommendations 16, 17, and 18 were considered together. Director Craig commented that as a person who has been involved in the school district for a long time, he has seen a dwindling of our schoolsÕ participation in the Halloween Parade. He remembers through the seventies and eighties when it was not uncommon to see all 22 schools involved. He hopes our schools are encouraging representation in the parade. He would really like to see every school represented. The backbone of the parade is the schoolsÕ participation. President Williams stated that when her children were in elementary school it was largely the parents and PTA organizations that organized the students for such activities. That may be a difficulty more so now than it used to be for parents.
