10. Engineering/Industrial Hygiene Services - Northeast Middle School
INFORMATION:
On November 19, 2001, the Board of School Directors authorized the administration to engage the services of AWTEC Facility Management Consultants to perform the following:
- Develop specifications for the removal of asbestos
- Procure responsible bids
- Evaluate bids and recommend to the district the lowest responsible bidder
- Hold pre-construction meetings
- Review all contractor submittals
- Oversee and administer all work associated with the asbestos abatement projects
- Recommend payment
The fee for these services was not to exceed 4.9 percent of the total cost of the asbestos abatement project.
The administration is recommending rejection of all asbestos bids related to the Northeast Middle School asbestos abatement project. As a result of this rejection, it is unclear as to the payment authorized by the Board of School Directors to AWTEC for services engaged since there will not be any asbestos abatement project at this time and no contractor payment to recommend. AWTEC has completed most of the work for which it was engaged, therefore, the administration recommends the board authorize payment in the amount of 80 percent times 4.9 percent of the lowest bid received.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Board of School Directors authorize the payment to AWTEC Facility Management Consultants for services performed on the Northeast Middle School asbestos abatement project in the amount of 80 percent of 4.9 percent of the lowest bid received on that project, or $17,422.21.
The administration's recommendations 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31, and 32 were considered together.
