MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

BETWEEN

BETHLEHEM AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT

BOARD OF SCHOOL DIRECTORS

AND

BETHLEHEM EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, The Board of Directors of the Bethlehem Area School District (Board) and the Bethlehem Education Association (Association) have entered into a Collective Bargaining Agreement (Agreement) and,

 

 

WHEREAS, The parties wish to clarify a matter relating to wages, hours, and terms as they apply to the Regional Academic Standards Academy,

 

 

THEREFORE, Be it resolved that the parties agree to the following:

 

 

1.              Each bargaining unit member assigned to the Regional Academic Standards Academy shall have volunteered to teach at the Academy.

 

2.              Any bargaining unit member assigned to the Regional Academic Standards Academy who has indicated an intent to return to his/her original assignment at the conclusion of their first school year at the Academy, shall be returned to that position beginning with the next school year.

 

3.              Any bargaining unit member assigned to the Regional Academic Standards Academy shall work an eight-hour day while students are in session with a thirty-minute duty free lunch. Compensation for the additional 45 minutes per day shall be based upon the following formula: (bargaining unit member's per diem rate X 20 days).

 

4.              Each bargaining unit member assigned to the Regional Academic Standards Academy shall be provided one 90 minute preparation period daily, divided equally as follows: 45 minutes of personal preparation time and 45 minutes of team planning time.

 

5.              Each bargaining unit member assigned to the Regional Academic Standards Academy shall be required to attend no more than two hours of faculty meetings each month. Faculty meetings shall be scheduled at the discretion of the principal provided bargaining unit members are afforded one-week notification of the scheduled meeting date. Faculty meetings may be scheduled as follows:

 

a.              A one hour meeting and two 30 minute meetings either before or after the regular school day.

b.              Four thirty minute meetings either before or after school.

c.              No more than one, one-hour faculty meeting, or one 30 minute faculty meeting, may be scheduled on a day when students are in session.

d.              No more than one, one-hour faculty meeting, or two 30 minute faculty meetings, shall be scheduled in a week.

e.              Compensation for the second one-hour faculty meeting shall be reimbursed at the contractual extra duty leadership pay rate.

6.              Bargaining unit members who work at the Regional Academic Standards Academy shall, through consultation with the Academy principal, determine the inservice programs for each scheduled staff inservice.

 

7.              Each bargaining unit member assigned to the Regional Academic Standards Academy shall be provided with a total of 30 hours during the summer preceding the initial start-up of the Academy to prepare rooms and to perform other professional responsibilities associated with the Academy. Compensation for the 30 hours shall be reimbursed at the contractual extra duty leadership rate.

 

8.              Each bargaining unit member assigned to the Regional Academic Academy shall be provided up to 60 hours during the summer for training purposes. Compensation for the 60 hours shall be reimbursed at the contractual extra duty leadership rate.

 

9.              The Regional Academic Academy may incorporate the middle school team leader concept. Academic Regional Academy bargaining unit members who serve as team leaders shall have the same duties and responsibilities that the middle school team leaders have. Compensation for Academy team leaders shall be reimbursed at the same rate as stipulated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement effective September 1, 2002.

 

10.           Except as listed above, all other Articles of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, as well as the school district calendar, shall remain in their entirety. This Memorandum of Understanding will continue in full force and effect until 12:01 a.m. on September 1, 2005.
