21. Authorization to Accept Offer on Parcel/Property
N6SE4A-3-14/Lenox Avenue - Northampton County
Repository Sale
INFORMATION:
Parcel/Property N6SE4A-3-14/Lenox Avenue was turned over to the Northampton County Tax Claim Bureau for collection of delinquent school district real estate taxes. The property has been in the repository since 1956. On January 24, 2002, the school district received notification from the Tax Claim Bureau that a bid of $1 was tendered on the property. The current assessment is $500.
A recent amendment to the Pennsylvania Real Estate Tax Law (Sec. 627) requires the Tax Claim Bureau to obtain written consent from the taxing district to accept an offer of any price for the property placed in the "repository for unsold properties" without court approval and published notice of sale. The taxing district may not unreasonably withhold its consent to the sale of the property.
The Tax Claim Bureau has evaluated the offer and considers it to be a fair offer and desires the property to be sold.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Board of School Directors authorize the administration to send the Tax Claim Bureau written consent to accept the offer of $1 for Parcel/Property N6SE4A-3-14/Lenox Avenue.
