20.     Sale of Cellular Telephones – Solicitation of Quotations

INFORMATION:

Bethlehem Area School District Policy 706 directs the administration to dispose of surplus equipment through sale of that equipment.  The school district has deemed that approximately 25 cellular telephones purchased by the district are surplus property and should be sold.  As a result of the cost of newspaper advertising compared to the anticipated receipts generated by this sale it shall be requested that the advertising requirement be waived.  The school district will actively seek competitive quotations through direct contact with parties who may have an interest in purchase of these telephones.  No telephone shall be sold to an employe or his/her family member without obtaining an offer to purchase from an unrelated entity or individual.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the administration be authorized to solicit quotations from individuals or companies with the award going to the highest quotation received.  Furthermore, the Board of School Directors waives the advertising requirements contained in Policy 706.
