12.      Authorization to Add Positions

 

 

INFORMATION:

 

The two fourth grades at Buchanan Elementary School have 28 and 30 students respectively.   Due to the wide range of needs in these classes, including those of special education, ESOL, and recent transfer students, one full-time teacher assistant is needed to help with the two classes. 

 

Due to the needs of several special education students in first and second grade at Spring Garden Elementary School, a three-hour teacher assistant is needed.

 

 

RECOMMENDATION:

 

That the administration be authorized to hire a 1.0 teacher assistant for Buchanan Elementary School and a three-hour teacher assistant for Spring Garden Elementary School for the remainder of the 2000-2001 school year.  The approximate total cost for these positions is $9,200.  IDEA funds are available for these positions.
