  1. Technology Literacy Challenge Fund

INFORMATION:


The Bethlehem Area School District is eligible to apply for funds from the Pennsylvania
Department of Education to support its technology initiative. The purpose of the grant is to
provide school districts, especially those with high levels of poverty, with funds that will
help them meet their most important educational technology needs. Nonpublic schools
must be given the opportunity to participate in this program in accordance with Section
3135 of Title III of the Improving America's Schools Act. The grant program recommends
the involvement of other schools, libraries, museums, and community organizations,
particularly residential institutions for delinquent/neglected youth.


RECOMMENDATION:

That the administration be authorized to submit an application in the amount of $500,000
for the 2000-2001 Technology Literacy Challenge Fund Grant which will enhance our
technology initiative. The other partners on the grant application are Bethlehem Area
Vocational-Technical School, Bethlehem Area Public Library, The Discovery Center,
Historic Bethlehem Partnership, Community Service Foundation, Diocese of Allentown,
and Moravian Academy.
