Applications for Funding of Adult Basic Education and General
Education Development Programs

The Bethlehem Area School District, through a subcontract with Northampton
Community College, is eligible to submit applications for funding of Adult Basic
Education (ABE) and General Education Development (GED) programs for the 2000-
2001 school year. Funds are available to provide basic adult education programs and
programs for preparing those qualified to take the Pennsylvania General High School
Diploma examination.
Adult Basic Education programs provide instruction in basic skills, reading, writing, math,
consumer skills, and life skills equivalent to grade levels one to eight. General Education
Degree programs cover high school level English and mathematics. English for Speakers
of Other Languages (ESOL) programs are also offered for non-English speaking and
limited-English speaking adults.

RECOMMENDATION:
That the administration be authorized to subcontract with the Northampton Community
College for the 2000-2001 school year ABE/GED Programs in the amount of $37,292.
